Our Certificate Of 12

We are choosing to put our film  at 12 certificate we reasearched the film certificates but thought that it was the most relavent to our film as there is going to bad language.  it also will get the most of our target market as our target age is 15-24.
Exactly the same criteria are used to classify works at ‘12A’ and ‘12’. These categories are awarded where the material is suitable, in general, only for those aged 12 and over. Works classified at these categories may upset children under 12 or contain material which many parents will find unsuitable for them.

Evaluation

The intial represetaiton of our main protaganists offers an exaggeration  of their sterotype such as Darryl playing one of the  main protagists Dave. he  is showing this when he is thowing cornflakes over his face or when our  main protaganist Tarquin is getting ready winking at himself in the mirror. we have taken these sterotypes but taken them to the extreems  this sticks to the conventions of our genre exaggeration of actions.

Our media product does not challenge all of the  forms of the  comerdy genre beacuse in some acspects it is very similar looking like in the film Bridget Jones or The Inbetweeners both have extream social conflicts as does our film with Dave / Tarquin

There is commentary at the start over the scene this is something that we thought was an innitave way that  we are able to be showing our main protaganists at the beginning of the film.   . There are two ways in which things are funny such as soical humor which is typically British. This  is funny becasue it offers the extreems of soical classes.    Our film is situation comedy mainly with some gags our film is the extreems between social classes which is the main storyline this also is social comedy. Things which are funny in our film are Tarquins well spoken accent is the extreem in contast  the way in which Dave is speaking with slang. This is suggesting conflict between the characters. There is little conflict between our characters at the start we think this made the characters funny becasue it states what the characters are going to be like at the opening. comerdy is very subjective so we wernt planning on trying hard to make it funny .We tested it on some groups of our target age 15-24 to gage an reaction it went well it was also very usefull. We wanted to stick to the conventions of our genre beacuse then our target age group are pleased with the film. Our script is in the first person this is  helping the veiwers to feel more involved in the film

This is not normal for our genre although we studied the film Bridget Jones which has talking over the scene. this is in the first person as it is adressing us . We even made the veiwers more involved like when Tarquin is looking in the mirror it is like he is adressing us as the people he is talking about. The music is typical of comedies there are two songs both quite jolly Tarquins character has  sexy music more typical to his character wheras Dave has something more funny showing the unique yet clashes in their personalitys.  Conventions of the genre are gags or jokes this is typical of comedy it is often with the characters laughing or has laughing veiwers we are challenging this by not putting in any laughing from viewers. we thought that our veivers are able then  to be laughing when they want when they think something is funny.

The soical groups we are portraying in our product in our opening are very extreem from each other. Tarquin is upper class reresenting the group ABC1 whereas Dave is struggling living on benifits representing the group C2DE both lives we wre trying to make as extreem as possible as that is what our film is mainly focused about. tarquin we dressed well in an suit using the tie for editing connotating weath power ect we have also been reflecting this in his job being the boss . in constrast Dave is dressed in an sleeping bag which connotates homelessness. this has also been reflected in his job as he is an cleener for Tarquiin suggesting he is lower status than Tarquin .

The colours of Daves room is white dingy whereas Trarquins room it is painted in orange connoting happynesss , power , money. the social groups are quite obious as in we are using sterotypes to enhance our point.ie making their jobs very differnt .Another way we are emphasing the socal class differnce is the accents of Tarquin is well spoken in constrast to Daves quoloqual speaking slang.

Twenithcentry fox also make similar films to our company as they make the simpsons. We got some of our inspriaption from the clothing scene in an episode of the simpsons this is why we think these companys are the best to take our product to. We would hope our film would be appealing to these sorts of companies in turn would be shown in the mulitplexes.

Our ilm in my opinon is aimed at the majority ABC1 or C2DE groups it will have an skeww of C2DE due to our majority target age of 15-24 this is the most popular age to be visiting the mulitplexcinemas so it will be benefitting  our profit . Another benifit will be our classification of 12 beacuse this is atrrating the most popular age range to be be visiting the cinema , it is also the mosr popular classifcation . Our film has swearing this is why we have rated it 12 . We would take our film to 20th Century Fox or Working Title as both of these companys have already been producting films that we aspire to be as succsessfull as . Also films that are silimlar to ours an example is Bridget Jones from Working Titles it made $281929795 in the box office . Both distribution companies have produced films that we could see our own fitting in with . We  would love to see our film in the multilexes beacuse we feel our film could be appealing to lots people in turn making us the most profit .

Our target audience is ages 15-24 so mainly from reaserching we discovered that our age range will be using the internet . We would have been avetising on social networking sites an example would be Facebook or Twitter

Becasue we think that is where our target age is. More than 750 million users use Facebook 50% of users log on to Facebook in any given day the Average user has 130 people which they are posting to. This means we have the best effichant way of reaching our target market. Twitter is also very effichant to be advertising to our target age because 175 million use twitter majortiy are of our target age . billboards , boards in cinemas,, street furniture,, magazines,  conjoining with companys such as Coka Cola or Macdonalds  the reasons why we have chosen these companies is beacuse our target market 15-24 are most likely to consume these products

To put our posters up in their  companys .Or give special offers giving away  prizes this would generate popularity for the film. not only for our target market but for the people eating or drinking the product.

We got feedback from doing our questionnarres at the start of the marketing that 15-24 year old males mainly were our target age as they enjoy watching comedy films. In order to be reaching this age we made the film based on the ansewers. Another way to attract our target age group would be our distribution company . This would give the film status before even being shown becasue  use the company would have other films of this  similar genre creating an fanbase already.
Our target age group is 15-24 from doing our questionnarres we learnt that this is our best target age our reasoning for this is out of forty questionnarres 70 percent of 15-24 said comedy was their favioute genre to go see at the cinema mainly males said this so we are targeting our comedy at male 15-24 with an skew of females . Half of our production team are males. In this genre this gave us an advantage to get an balance between what men enjoy but also having an female opion which is usefull. We felt this would be easy becasue being the same age as our target age makes it easyer for us to relate to our target market.

Editing. we are learning how to edit using the software final cut or sony vegus. In final cut we were editing quite an bit such as the part where Tarquins clothing flys backwards i think this scene was the best becasue is was innitive there was little continuitys errors as well.

Mostly half of the production team were editing whilst half were writing scripts ect we used each others talents effectivly such as the boys editing skills. We relsied after our first draft sony vegus was more productive as it was quicker at editing it produced the same effects in less time. The transitions we think are cleaner than our first draft using final cut. Another technology we are learning how to use are the cameras they are hd cameras which are very easy to use. They capture your footage well. We were always using our tripod in our
filming for long shots this made out shots without shaking. Making it look more professional.
Our progression is remarable really from our first prolimanary we made little continuity errors like when the suspect was throwing the iterrogator in the corner. we also went against the conventions of the 180 degree rule. Which is staying to the side of the camera that you were originally on giving it continuitly.Whereas in the new film opening we are sticking to it. Becasue it has continuity. Something i really liked about our prolimanary is we made the crime scene ittrigation quite funny playing to our strenghts. This is why we have chosen to do the comedy genre for our main task. The editing in this prolimany was quite basic we were cutting it too much making it seam jerky. Whereas in our main task we have smooth transitions between the shots making it a lot easyer to be watching. Something we have been learning is planning we were rushing our plimanary task so it was basic without mise en scene whereas our main task is thought about carefully timetableing imortant filming to do ect .

Script Writing
We began by thinking about the qualitys of our main personalities the sort of things they would say how they would say things what connotiotions this would mean for the storyline . like if they were talking in slang or have an accent or upper class speaking voice. We all as production team were all putting something in with the script we felt this would give us the best way of making it funny becasue our target age group is our age. We wrote the finished drafts to teenagers in our certian age range then got their feedback they were postive our slapstick comerdy was going to look very realistic. The script is going to be our main conponant in our opening becasue it then is showing what genre it is. Also they learn more about our main characters .
We are very pleased with the final scripts we think it follows the conventions of our genre it really is showing the personatilys of our main chararacters effishantly at the the start of the film which is the purpose of the opening.

Media film draft

This is our media film draft altered without our ident or credits yet

  • In this final draft we are very pleased with the outcome . things we are parclicularly pleased with are
  • the opening shot of Dave in bed it is really setting the scene also Dave is in an sleeping bag wihich is connotating povity, he is also sleeping in his clothing. showing Dave is messy
  • we also partically liked the music that we put with it. it is quite jolly but also connotates comedy.
  • the shot of the fridge with the milk in the fridge we shot putting the camera in the fridge this we think was quite innitave
  • the corflakes scene was shot using the hd camera then edited using sony vegus to make it in slow motion
  • we are using high shots to give an feeling of power over Dave
  • in Tarquins shots he is using low shots giving him power over us
  • the music is sexy reflecting his personality
  • in the clothing scene we were filming it backwards then in editing reversed all the shots making it seam effortless
  • in the bathrom scene we also are using slow motion so it is fitting with Tarquins sexy personality
  • his clothing is much more professional reflecting that he is the boss
  • when Tarquin is saying about how spreading his attention is difficult he is spreading the butter
  • the plate butter knife is all organised reflecting his personality
  • when he is going to workTarquin is playing to the camera like we are the women he is adressing

choosing audio

We are choosing the audio to fit in with the film. The audio changes becasue we wanted the music to be playing as our main personalitys are talking about themselves this creates the mood. Tarquin is getting something slow more jazzy becasue he is our  flirty boss  whereas dave is getting something more slow relaxing . Music really affects the film.

We added the audio to the film the talking part of it  we were trying to equil with the music so it didnt over power the speaking too much the dyagaic noises like the alarm clock we made louder. The music in the film the simpsons they use funny music to fit in with their film

tarquins script

Tarquins script

Hellooo, ladies, oh, and gentlemen, my name is Tarquin, I'm 24 and, I'm the boss, by day I work at The Cool & Sexy Company and all I do is make sure people are doing what they should do, and most of the time they do, so I just sit there chilling and making all the money, I used to attend the Posh & Expensive School of money and power, I was top of the class and I didn't even try, I guess god just gave me of power of awesomness, oh, and If you're wondering why my clothes fly onto my sexy body, I don't know to be honest, I'm just that cool.  By night I party hard raving with my homies, I get all the ladies lusting over me, sometimes it does get difficult spreading my attention equally between all the thousands of beautiful women though, but I guess it's just something I'm gunna have to get used to, I've been cursed with good looks.
Anyway back to the subject of work, i've been thinking. There is one man that i really need to fire, the cleaner ... I think his name is, David or something? How dare he come to work in the same filthy clothes for a week. It's disgusting! TRAMP! Maybe I'll fire him today, yehhhh, annyway, got to go now, goodbye ladiesss!

i love how we all put something in this script it really fits the charactrisation that we were looking to express  it will impove it when we put the talking with the songs. this script is showing that Tarquin is upper class or thinks he is. we really are trying to get the charactisation of the characters in the first opening to the film because our inspriations are taken from Bridget Jones film by working title .comedy films often have the main character talking over the opening scene as this is sean in Bridget Jones this demonstrates. we really love how the script is showing that Tarquin is an arrogant , mean , powerfull , we all were helping think of how we could write the script so we all brought our own thoughts of this person.

daves script

Script for Dave

Erm... I'm Dave, a 34 year old office cleaner man from Kent, I earn my living by cleaning officees, I hate my job, nobody likes me any everyone ignores me, I don't even earn enough to live, I'm still on benefits... My old job was much better, I was a bin man until I got fired! But I was the best, damn, binman in the world, empting bins like a BOSS.. but them I went to work one day, a liiiittle drunk... annnnnnnd, kinda fell asleep driving. Oh, and I ran over a dog. But it's okay, well, the dogs not okay the dogs dead... but I'm okay, my job will do. The only reason I'm still at my job is my boss, his name is Tarquin he's pretty cool, always saying hello and giving me the respect I deserve which none of the other workers give me, ahh well, off to work now, see ya.

in this script we all were trying to express the slobbyness of Dave. we wrote these scripts as the group this was benifishal to us becasue we kept passing the laptop writing new plans for it this really was fun as we coulld use slang to make it as lazy as possible.

re filming

when we began watching back our film we realised that there were  continuity errors we wanted to re film the opening . inthis new film we put in more camera shots , more to kyles part , more bathroom shown more smoother editing. we reduced darryls to one minute becasue previouly it was longer than kyles so they didnt equal.

in the bathroom this is where we are going to be shooting Tarquins scene it is blue reflecting calmness it is also tidy

this is where we are going to be filming the fidge scene also the milk scene we are going to put our hd camera in the fridge/ cupboard to look as though we are in the fridge. to put the veiwer in the action

this is the messy sink we are using for Daves house as there is beer bottles in the sink

our inspriation

our inspriration the simpsons

Our inspiration for our film opening is from The Simpsons, it's when Homer gets a job as an ice cream man he begins getting dressed lighting fast with the clothing jmping on him .

some other inspriations are bridget jones diary in the opening she is commenting over the  visual action which is inkeeping with our comerdy genre .

bridget jones diary analysis

Bridget Jones (Renée Zellweger) is frustrated; she is in her early thirties, still single, very accident prone and worried about her weight. Shde works in publicity at a book publishing company in London where her main focus is fantasizing about her boss, Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant). At a New Year party hosted by her parents, she re-meets Mark Darcy (Colin Firth),
The scene opens with an establishing shot of an old car driving up to an house in the snow . We now know it is winter we presume the person narrating is Bridget also driving the car . Bridget is complaining about going to parents for Christmas curry this is something we can all identify with . Bridget arrives to be met by her mother who is very glamorous comparing them . Bridget is wearing dark colors connoting the rut she is in  . Bridget’s mother has chosen an outfit of in her own words CARPET when she is being introduces to none other than Mr Darcy . Bridget fancys him she becomes tounge tyed when talking to him which is something we can all identify with . it is also funny to the audience because it is so cringy it inkeeps with connventions of comerdy.

ice age anaylisis

The scene opens with us seeing one of the main characters so we think it is an squirrel called scrat it is trying to store the acorn scrat is tiny against an big setting it makes scat look even shorter compared to the ice this makes him look unimportant  vulnerable
Scrat starts by burying his nut in the ice this causes an avalanche which sets off the ice to fall scrat keeps getting in difficult situations which are showing the audience that this is an comedy scrat is the only character shown in this start of the peice because scrat sums up what the whole thing is about he is determined loyal loving caring he is also the comedian of the film young children like scrat because they think it is something they see in themselves

Scrat the squirrel makes many comical attempts to bury his beloved acorn. His misfortunes include getting chased by an enormous glacier, being struck by lightning, attempting to thaw out the acorn by a fire too long so that it accidentally took the form of a kernel of popcorn, and finally getting frozen in ice along with his much sought after nut. At the end, 20,000 years later (the present), Scrat is frozen in an ice cube that washes up on the shore of tropical island. The sun slowly melts the cube, bringing Scrat back to life but the acorn, which is just out of his reach ends up being washed away by the tide. Scrat then explodes out of the ice cube in anger and hits his head repetitively on a tree, which drops a coconut which he think is an giant nut

text analysis

for my text analysis iam watching three films  opening comedy becasue our film is comedy iam expecting to see slapstick realisum comedy

Bridget Jones
Ice Age

these films we are looking at for  example the talking over the scene at the start we think we are using this in our film.
